Right about now I have that song stuck in my head. Those of you that have seen it, you know which song I’m talking about. It’s catchy. Much like the television series in which it belongs. While I have not delved too far into the books (it’s on my ever growing list), I do enjoy the television series immensely, with one caveat.
Season one and two are out now, anxiously awaiting the release of season three (sadly Henry Cavill’s last). The casting for Geralt himself could not have been better. I have always liked Henry Cavill as an actor in general, ever since his role in The Tudors (another great series). But, if you ask me, out of all the roles I’ve seen him in, this is the one in which he truly shines. His dedication to the mannerisms of the character really bring so much of it to life and it breaks my heart he will not be returning. No offense to Liam Hemsworth but it will not be the same.
There’s so much material here I know the show does not have time to explore but it definitely peaks my interest in reading the books. The characters are so well developed and designed, the storyline is well thought out, and the dialogue is effortless. It’s the kind of series you’ll want to watch more than once, not only because it’s just that good but because you learn something new every time.
What’s the downside? The time vaulting. Honestly, it took me about halfway through the first season to figure out that it was jumping back and forth through time. It’s not so much a writing issue as it is an execution problem. I’ve seen shows before that do this very same thing but they would always mark the separate timeline in a certain way to help differentiate the two. With Geralt never seeming to age, nor many of the other characters, it became nearly impossible to determine. That is, until names get mentioned. Going back and watching it again, I finally caught some of the cues that would have tipped me off. I’m still not certain whether those cues were intended to be that subtle (or maybe I’m just not as observant as I should be).
Final thoughts: Would I recommend? To a fellow fantasy lover? Absolutely. It is definitely one you need to pay close attention to though so don’t put it on as background noise. It’s very visually compelling but not overly so which is a nice departure from most of today’s content. Worth a watch (even two or three).

The witcher was fine until they pulled the witchers teeth out of it
So disappointing. If they do move forward with season four, they’re going to have one heck of an uphill battle.
